GUM DISEASE TREATMENTS

Periodontitis, a form of periodontal disease (or gum disease), is an inflammation that affects the tissues that surround and support your teeth. Left untreated, it can eventually cause a loss of bone around the teeth, causing them to loosen and die.

The first step in treating the problem is to clean below the gum line with a procedure called scaling and debridement. If this is not sufficient, there are several other treatments that can be used, and a customized treatment plan can be developed for you at Vital Smiles.

However, people with periodontitis must realize that it is a chronic inflammatory disease and a lifelong regimen of good oral hygiene, including proper brushing and professional care from a dentist/hygienist or periodontist is necessary to keep the problem in check over the long term.

Periodontal treatments for gum disease are usually performed on adults and are covered by most dental insurance plans.
