Tooth fracture – Tooth fracture can occur on any tooth, but usually occurs on the anterior (front) teeth due to trauma. The fracture can be a small chip to a complete break of the tooth at the gum line. If a tooth fracture occurs, your child should be examined by a dentist immediately. Based on the extent of the fracture, the dentist will determine the best treatment for your child.
Tooth Avulsion – Avulsion or complete loss of a tooth can occur due to trauma. Sometimes it's hard to know if the tooth lost is a baby or adult tooth. The tooth should be rinsed off with water if it is dirty. If the tooth still has long roots on it and your child is old enough not to swallow it, then it should be re-implanted in the mouth. If placing the tooth back in the mouth is not an option, then the tooth should be placed in a pH balanced solution. If neither option is possible the tooth can be placed in a cup of milk and transported to the dental office. Take your child to see a dentist as soon as possible to determine the best treatment.
