WISDOM TOOTH EXTRACTION

When a child’s wisdom teeth are well-placed and healthy, they play an important role. But when they’re too large for the child’s jaw size, if they come out crooked, or if they don’t come down through the gum at all, there can be trouble, from crowding the adjoining teeth to forming cysts under the gums.

At Vital Smiles, we track patients’ wisdom teeth through both visual exam and regular x-rays. And if a problem is found, extraction can be the best solution. This is generally a minor surgical procedure, done in our offices using a local anesthetic. Patients also have the option of seeing an Oral Surgeon specialist.

There may be some discomfort after the extraction, but it is usually mild and doesn’t last long.

Oral surgeries such as this are usually covered by Medicaid, ALL Kids and most dental insurance.
